Barbados bounces back at home with an eight-wicket win powered by disciplined bowling and composed batting.
The Barbados Tridents delivered a statement performance at home, dismantling the Saint Lucia Kings by eight wickets in a Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League match that showcased both disciplined bowling and composed batting. The victory marked the Tridents’ third win of the season and provided relief after a frustrating four-game losing streak.
The Kings’ innings began promisingly, with Kamil Pooran’s aggressive PowerPlay batting pushing the visitors to 51 for 1 after six overs. That momentum evaporated when Mujeeb Ur Rahman struck, removing Pooran for 37 and triggering a dramatic collapse in the middle order. Rahman and Jakeem Pollard combined to suffocate the Kings’ scoring, with Rahman finishing with outstanding figures of 3 for 22, while Daniel Sams chipped in with 2 for 20. Roston Chase’s defiant 34 offered some resistance, but the Tridents’ bowlers maintained their stranglehold throughout, particularly in the death overs where the Kings managed just 29 runs while losing three wickets in the final five overs.
Chasing 139, the Tridents’ openers Brandon King and Zachary Carter provided a solid foundation with a 41-run opening stand. After both fell to the Kings’ bowling—King for 22 and Carter for 32—the experienced Quinton de Kock and Rivaldo Clarke took control. Despite some nervous moments and a couple of close calls in the field, the pair demonstrated composure and tactical awareness, building an unbroken 76-run partnership that guided the home side to victory with 13 balls remaining. De Kock finished unbeaten on 47 while Clarke remained not out on 36.
The Caribbean Premier League is the region’s premier Twenty20 cricket competition, featuring franchises from across the Caribbean. The Tridents play their home matches at Kensington Oval in Barbados, one of the Caribbean’s most historic cricket venues.
This match represents a significant moment for the Barbados Tridents and their supporters, as the home side’s resurgence in the CPL affects regional cricket standings and pride. The performance of Caribbean players like de Kock and Clarke in this competition reflects the caliber of talent across the region’s cricket ecosystem.
