The 16-year-old Toronto FC II forward replaces injured Leon Bailey ahead of Jamaica’s opening match against Guatemala.
The Reggae Boyz have turned to youth to bolster their squad for the upcoming Concacaf Nations League group stage campaign. Interim Head Coach Rudolph Speid has called 16-year-old forward Jahmarie Nolan into the senior setup after winger Leon Bailey withdrew due to an ankle injury sustained while playing for Olympiakos FC in Greece.
Nolan, who plays for Toronto FC II in the third tier of American professional football, has earned recognition through his performances at the youth level. At the Concacaf Under-17 Qualifiers in February, the former Mount Pleasant FA player was named the tournament’s best player after scoring four goals and two assists, helping Jamaica qualify for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He has continued his development at the Under-20 level, scoring seven goals including two at this summer’s Concacaf Under-20 Championship.
The young forward has also made an impact in professional competition, registering 10 goals in the MLS NEXT Pro season to date. His elevation to the senior squad comes as Jamaica prepares for a crucial Nations League campaign, beginning with a home fixture against Guatemala on Friday at the National Stadium. The Reggae Boyz will also face Honduras at home on Monday before travelling to El Salvador and Honduras for away matches.
Speid has also invited other young talent to train with the squad, including 17-year-old Jamone Lyle and 24-year-old Tajay Grant, who could potentially fill the void left by Norwich City winger Andre Brooks, who withdrew through injury. Jamaica must finish in the top two of Group B to advance to the quarter-finals.
Jamaica’s youth development pipeline has produced several standout performers in recent years. The Under-17 team’s qualification for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar demonstrated the strength of emerging talent within the programme, with several players now transitioning into senior football opportunities.
As the home nation’s football federation develops its next generation of talent, Nolan’s rapid ascent from youth football to senior international football represents an important moment for Jamaican football development and the broader Caribbean football landscape. His success at the youth level and in North American professional football demonstrates the pathways available to Caribbean players seeking international careers.
