Teen Old Harbour High Student Crowned Miss Jamaica World Southern Region 2026

Seventeen-year-old Lenesha Francis advances to national pageant after winning inaugural regional competition.

Old Harbour High School student Lenesha Francis made history on Saturday night when she was crowned the first-ever Miss Jamaica World Southern Region 2026 at a coronation ceremony held at Rooftop Chillinz Bar and Lounge. The 17-year-old, who represented Lion’s Villa and Totally Delicious, emerged victorious from a field of nine contestants competing for the newly established regional title.

Shonnoya Houston, competing as Miss Delapenha’s Funeral Services Limited, secured the first runner-up position, while Ashanti Douglas, representing Karl Grant’s Auto Sales and Repairs, claimed second runner-up honours. All three finalists have advanced to the national Miss Jamaica World pageant. Beyond the crown, Francis earned additional recognition, winning the Most Poise award and the top model fast-track competition.

In reflecting on her pageant journey, Francis spoke candidly about the experience of competing at just 17 years old alongside older contestants. According to the Jamaica Observer, she credited her fellow competitors and mentors Natalia Baugh and T’Dane Gordon with helping her feel welcomed and supported throughout the rigorous training process. The Grade 13 student described the competition as transformative, emphasizing how the discipline and commitment required shaped her personal growth beyond the pageant itself.

Francis has harboured pageantry ambitions since childhood, recalling her determination to one day represent Jamaica internationally. Her platform, called Destiny in Motion, focuses on providing free dance education to underserved youth in her community. Looking ahead, she envisions expanding this advocacy across Jamaica while pursuing a law degree to become a criminal lawyer. She also expressed interest in eventually becoming a walk coach for women in pageantry, combining her passion for modelling with mentorship.

The Miss Jamaica World Southern Region pageant represents a new regional division within Jamaica’s pageantry structure, with this year marking the inaugural competition for the southern region. The event was organized by Alton Reid and received sponsorship support from Rooftop Chillinz Bar and Lounge, which served as the official venue.

This story reflects Jamaica’s vibrant pageantry culture and the aspirations of young Jamaican women seeking platforms for community advocacy and international representation. For Caribbean diaspora audiences, it exemplifies how young people across the region use pageantry as a vehicle for personal development, social impact, and the pursuit of larger dreams in law, education, and community service.
