Mehidy’s Masterclass Leads Warriors to Dominant Home Victory

Bangladeshi spinner takes 4-23 as Guyana Amazon Warriors cruise past Trinbago Knight Riders in Republic Bank CPL clash at Providence.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors brought their home campaign to a triumphant close, dismantling long-time rivals Trinbago Knight Riders with a convincing six-wicket victory at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence. According to Kaieteur News, the Warriors’ disciplined bowling attack proved too much for TKR, who managed only 126-8 from their 20 overs.

Bangladeshi off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the standout performer with the ball, claiming 4-23 in what marked another exceptional display after taking three wickets in the previous match. Miraz struck immediately upon entering the attack, dismissing Colin Munro before delivering a devastating blow by clean-bowling Nicholas Pooran for a golden duck. His control through the middle overs proved decisive as TKR struggled to build momentum.

Local pace bowler Shamar Joseph provided crucial support, taking 2-27 from four overs with discipline and aggression during the crucial death overs. The Warriors’ South African contingent of Imran Tahir (1-21) and Dwaine Pretorius (1-24) offered ideal support to the frontline bowlers. TKR’s overseas openers Alex Hales (22) and Colin Munro (26) began aggressively but could not sustain their momentum, while Justin Greaves’ steady 35 off 37 balls proved insufficient to anchor the innings.

The Warriors’ chase was equally comfortable, with Shai Hope remaining unbeaten on 42 to guide his team home. Shimron Hetmyer contributed 28 runs including three sixes, while opener Mavendra Dindyal (19) and Quentin Sampson (12 not out) provided supporting contributions. The victory capped an impressive home stretch, with the Warriors finishing their five-game stint at Providence with just one loss.

The 2026 Republic Bank CPL is the Caribbean Premier League’s ongoing season, featuring franchises from across the region competing in Twenty20 cricket. The Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders are among the league’s established teams, with a long-standing rivalry.

This match represents a significant moment for Guyanese cricket, showcasing the Warriors’ strong home performance and the emergence of local talent like Shamar Joseph alongside international stars. The victory demonstrates Guyana’s growing prominence in regional T20 cricket and the quality of cricket being played at the Guyana National Stadium.
