Mbappe Switches to Swiss Brand On, Ending Long Nike Run

France captain signs landmark deal with On as the Swiss sportswear maker makes bold entry into global football.

France captain Kylian Mbappe has made a significant career move, signing with Swiss sportswear brand On and concluding a partnership with Nike that had defined much of his professional journey. The announcement came Friday through an official company statement, signalling On’s ambitious push into the world’s largest sport.

On, founded in 2010, has built its reputation primarily in running and tennis footwear but is now making a decisive shift toward football. The signing of Mbappe represents the centerpiece of this strategic expansion. The company did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement, though the deal underscores the magnitude of Mbappe’s marketability and On’s commitment to establishing itself as a major player in sports sponsorship.

Mbappe expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing the opportunity to collaborate on innovation within the sport. “From the beginning, what drew me to On was the opportunity to build something entirely new together that will help shape tomorrow’s game,” he stated, adding that he aims to bring his experience into product development while maintaining a focus on the joy of football.

The Swiss company strengthened its football credentials by appointing Thierry Henry, the 1998 World Cup winner and football legend, as its football director. This move signals On’s intent to leverage deep expertise within the sport as it builds its presence in the market.

On’s entry into football follows a precedent set by another Swiss connection: tennis icon Roger Federer, who counts himself among the company’s shareholders and similarly departed Nike late in his career to join the Zurich-based brand.

On was founded in 2010 and has historically concentrated on running and tennis footwear. The company counts tennis legend Roger Federer among its shareholders; Federer himself left Nike near the end of his playing career to join On.
