Dr Maureen Mullings-Nelson hospitalized after crash near Duncans while returning from union meeting.
A two-vehicle collision on the Duncans main road in Trelawny sent the Jamaica Teachers’ Association’s president-elect to hospital Thursday afternoon. Dr Maureen Mullings-Nelson sustained multiple injuries in the crash, which occurred around 3:30 pm involving two Honda CR-V vehicles, according to the Jamaica Observer.
Multings-Nelson was a passenger in one of the vehicles at the time of the collision. She had been travelling from Montego Bay toward Kingston following a JTA Central Executive meeting held at the Sea Gardens Hotel. The driver of the other Honda CR-V involved in the crash reported minor injuries, though it remained unclear whether the driver of Mullings-Nelson’s vehicle sustained any physical harm.
Emergency responders, including members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade and Jamaica Constabulary Force, attended the scene. The crash created a substantial traffic backup along the roadway as personnel worked to clear the area. At the time of reporting, further details about Mullings-Nelson’s medical condition were not immediately available.
The Jamaica Teachers’ Association represents educators across the island and is led by an elected president. The organization holds regular Central Executive meetings to address union business and member concerns.
