Police investigating the death of 37-year-old Luis Angel Rodriguez Guillen following a workplace altercation at Land of Canaan.
Police in Guyana are investigating a fatal stabbing that claimed the life of a 37-year-old Cuban national at a shipyard facility on the East Bank Demerara on Saturday evening. According to reporting from Kaieteur News, the incident occurred around 11 p.m. at Land of Canaan, where the victim, Luis Angel Rodriguez Guillen, was employed.
The circumstances leading to the death emerged from a workplace argument between Guillen and a 32-year-old fellow Cuban national, also working at the shipyard. What began as a verbal dispute escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the younger man allegedly retrieved a knife and inflicted a single stab wound to Guillen’s chest.
Following the stabbing, Guillen collapsed in the hallway of the workers’ quarters. Other employees at the facility quickly intervened, restraining the suspect and handing him over to arriving police officers. A knife believed to be the weapon used in the incident was recovered and secured as evidence.
Guillen was transported to Diamond Regional Hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead. His body was transferred to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits post-mortem examination. The 32-year-old suspect remains in police custody as investigators work to establish the full circumstances of the fatal altercation.
Land of Canaan is located on the East Bank Demerara region of Guyana, an area that has seen various industrial and maritime operations. The shipyard where this incident occurred employed both local and foreign nationals.
