A 50-year-old construction worker identified as Adrian Beckford, known as "Paul", has been formally charged with multiple narcotics offences following a significant drug seizure in the St Andrew parish. According to the Jamaica Observer, the Specialized Operations Branch’s Special Weapons and Tactics team executed a search warrant at Beckford’s University Crescent residence in Papine on the evening of November 2.

During the operation, officers discovered several cartons of cocaine at the premises. The Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division subsequently weighed the substance, confirming approximately 69 kilograms—roughly 152 pounds—with an estimated street value of $51.7 million. Beckford was the sole occupant of the residence at the time of the search and was taken into custody on suspicion of breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Following an interview conducted in the presence of his attorney on Wednesday, November 4, Beckford was formally charged with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, taking steps preparatory to export cocaine, and conspiracy to export cocaine. He is scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on November 12 to face the charges.

The seizure reflects ongoing law enforcement efforts in Jamaica to combat drug trafficking. The Specialized Operations Branch and related narcotics units regularly conduct intelligence-led operations targeting suspected drug activity across the island.

This case underscores the persistent challenge of cocaine trafficking through Jamaica, a transit point for narcotics destined for North American and international markets. Drug-related arrests and seizures remain a significant public safety concern across the Caribbean region.
