Jimol Murphy, a 33-year-old driver and contractor from Vigilance on East Coast Demerara, has been charged with the abduction of two Surinamese men, according to Kaieteur News. The alleged victims are Van Dalen Lorenzo, 28, and Derryl Danillo, 29. Murphy is the brother of Mark ‘Demon’ Cromwell, a figure whose name appears prominently in the charge.
Murphy appeared virtually before Magistrate Shareefah Parks at Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. He was represented by attorneys Siand Dhurjon and Meshonn Persaud. The defendant was not required to enter a plea and was granted bail in the amount of GY$1 million, just hours after his initial release on station bail.
According to police records cited by Kaieteur News, Murphy was arrested on Friday, September 25, in connection with an alleged abduction that took place on Saturday, August 29, at Rosignol, West Bank Berbice. The matter has been adjourned to October 19, 2026, for further proceedings.
The case touches on a broader pattern of criminal investigations in Guyana involving cross-border incidents with Suriname. The Rosignol area, where the alleged abduction occurred, sits in West Bank Berbice, a region that has seen various law enforcement operations in recent years.
This case involves the alleged abduction of Surinamese nationals in Guyanese territory, highlighting transnational crime concerns within the Caribbean region and the legal frameworks governing cross-border incidents between neighboring nations.
