Seprod Stock Soars on Restructuring Plan as Jamaica’s Food and Pharma Giant Eyes Growth

The manufacturing conglomerate announced a five-for-one stock split and authorization to raise fresh capital, sending shares up nearly 20 percent.

Seprod Limited’s share price jumped nearly 20 percent on Wednesday, reaching $77.99 per share, following the company’s announcement of a major capital restructuring plan. The surge reflects investor enthusiasm for measures designed to make the company’s shares more accessible while positioning it for future expansion across the Caribbean.

The restructuring involves three key proposals that shareholders will vote on at an extraordinary general meeting scheduled for October 12. First, the company seeks to increase its authorized share capital from one billion to 1.9 billion shares. Second, it proposes a five-for-one stock split, which would convert each existing share into five shares at a proportionally lower price. Third, the board is seeking authority to issue new shares in the future, potentially through an additional public offering, giving the company flexibility to raise capital as needed.

According to the Jamaica Observer, Seprod currently has approximately 910.9 million shares in issue, leaving limited room under its existing authorization structure. The five-for-one split would increase the total to roughly 4.55 billion units. While the split itself does not increase shareholder wealth—an investor holding 100 shares worth $7,799 would instead hold 500 shares of proportionally lower value—it makes individual shares more affordable. At Wednesday’s closing price, a theoretical post-split share price would settle around $15.60.

Chairman P.B. Scott emphasized that the measures are intended to strengthen Seprod’s financial position and unlock growth opportunities. “Over the past four years we have built the Caribbean’s largest integrated manufacturing and distribution platform for food, pharmaceuticals and premium beverages,” Scott said, noting that the company is now focused on integration and balance sheet strengthening.

The restructuring comes as Seprod navigates mixed financial conditions. For the first half of 2026, group revenue declined three percent to $72.93 billion, though net profit climbed 62 percent to $2.34 billion, bolstered by a gain from the disposal of International Biscuits Limited. The company has also made progress on debt reduction, cutting liabilities by more than $3 billion during the period while maintaining dividend payments of $551 million. Long-term liabilities fell to $38.1 billion from $41.1 billion at year-end, while stockholders’ equity rose to $50.52 billion.

Seprod Limited is the Caribbean’s largest integrated manufacturer and distributor of food, pharmaceuticals, and premium beverages. The company has undergone significant expansion and consolidation over the past four years, building a regional platform that serves multiple markets across the Caribbean.

As Jamaica’s largest integrated food, pharmaceutical, and beverage manufacturer and distributor, Seprod’s financial health and growth trajectory directly affect employment, product availability, and economic activity across the Caribbean region. The company’s restructuring signals confidence in regional market opportunities and reflects broader trends in how Caribbean companies are positioning themselves for expansion and capital access.
