Caribbean Airlines, the Trinidad and Tobago-based carrier, has unveiled an ambitious expansion plan that includes the restoration of direct flights to Venezuela and new international routes. According to the Jamaica Observer, the airline will resume commercial passenger service between Trinidad and Caracas effective October 31, 2026, re-establishing direct air connectivity between the neighbouring countries after a period of suspension.

The carrier is simultaneously launching a weekly non-stop service to Toronto beginning October 25, offering what the airline describes as a direct connection between Tobago and a key international market. This move reflects CAL’s strategy to enhance leisure, business, and family travel options while supporting tourism and regional trade.

Beginning December 1, 2026, Caribbean Airlines will operate a series of charter flights between Trinidad and Panama on selected Tuesdays and Fridays, further diversifying its network. The airline framed these announcements as part of its broader effort to strengthen regional and international connectivity while maintaining operational reliability and customer experience.

These expansion plans come after the carrier made several route adjustments earlier in 2026. In May, CAL discontinued services to Dominica, St. Kitts, and Ogle in Guyana to Suriname, citing a focus on operational reliability and long-term financial stability. The airline also reduced the frequency of flights to Martinique and Guadeloupe to twice weekly, and in September, it discontinued direct Trinidad-Tobago-Barbados routing as part of ongoing schedule optimization.

Caribbean Airlines, owned by the Trinidad and Tobago government, has been navigating significant operational changes throughout 2026 as it restructures its regional network. The carrier has been balancing route expansion with financial sustainability, making strategic decisions about which markets to prioritize.

The resumption of flights to Venezuela and the expansion of Caribbean Airlines’ network directly affects travel, trade, and tourism connectivity across the Caribbean region. For Jamaica and other Caribbean nations, improved regional air connectivity through CAL’s expanded routes enhances business opportunities and family travel options throughout the hemisphere.
