G3 Goldfields Pursues Fresh Guyana Gold Prospects After Selling Assets for US$2.4 Billion

The exploration team behind two major discoveries now seeks additional mining claims in the Oko-Aremu district.

G3 Goldfields has emerged from the restructuring of G2 Goldfields following its acquisition by Canadian mining firm G Mining Ventures Corp. in July, according to reporting from Kaieteur News. The new company retains the exploration properties not included in that transaction and is actively pursuing additional mining claims within Guyana’s Oko-Aremu district.

The management team’s credentials are substantial. Over more than three decades working in Guyana, the G3 team has been responsible for discovering over 11 million ounces of gold. Two of their most significant finds were later sold at combined valuations totaling US$2.4 billion. The Aurora Gold Mine, discovered by the team and later held by Guyana Goldfields Inc., was acquired by AGM Inc.β€”a subsidiary of Chinese state-owned Zijin Mining Group Co. Ltd.β€”for US$238 million in August 2020. The mine, located in Region Seven, holds estimated reserves of approximately 184 tonnes or six million ounces of gold and remains Guyana’s only large-scale producing gold project. Zijin reported that the Guyana operation generated US$334 million in revenue during the first half of 2026.

The second major asset, the Oko-Ghanie project, was acquired by G Mining Ventures this year through a US$2.2 billion transaction that consolidated G2’s Oko-Ghanie project with GMIN’s Oko West project. The combined development is expected to produce an average of 281,000 ounces of gold annually at peak production, with total lifetime output projected at approximately 3.2 million ounces. GMIN has announced plans to achieve first gold pour from the Oko West component in the second half of 2027, with commercial production targeted for early 2028.

According to G3, management invested approximately C$85 million between 2019 and 2026 to generate more than C$3 billion in equity value within G2 Goldfields. The company now emphasizes its “boots on the ground” operational experience and rapid project advancement capabilities. G3 holds multiple drill-ready exploration targets in the Oko-Aremu gold belt and the Puruni gold district, including claims containing the historical Peter’s Mine. The company’s strategic land package is positioned adjacent to two major high-grade gold discoveries totaling over 9 million ounces of gold.

Guyana has emerged as a major gold-producing nation in recent years, with significant discoveries attracting major international mining investment. The country’s gold sector has expanded considerably, with multiple large-scale projects in development across Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) and other areas.

Guyana’s gold sector is a critical driver of the nation’s economic growth and foreign investment, making developments in major mining projects directly relevant to Caribbean economic development and resource management. The consolidation and expansion of gold mining operations reflect broader trends in how Caribbean nations are managing their natural resource wealth.
