Police Search for Three Missing Persons from West Bank Demerara

Guyana Police Force launches investigation after teenager, elderly man, and schoolgirl disappear within 72 hours.

The Guyana Police Force is actively searching for three individuals who disappeared from West Bank Demerara communities between September 23 and 26, according to reporting from Kaieteur News. The missing persons are Elizabeth Persaud, 17, of Onderneeming; Peter Arokium, 77, also of Onderneeming; and Serina Harris, 14, of Long Pond, Patentia.

Persaud was first reported missing on September 23 after leaving her home for an unknown destination. She is described as slim, approximately five feet four inches tall, with short black hair and a brown complexion. She was last seen wearing a red sleeveless shirt, black and red track pants, and green and black slippers. The following day, Arokium disappeared after leaving his residence at Phase 2, Onderneeming. The 77-year-old is fair-complexioned and was last seen in brown short pants.

Harris, a student at Patentia Secondary School, failed to return home on September 26 after leaving for school. She is described as slim, about five feet six inches tall, with short black hair and a brown complexion. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing her school uniform—a green uniform with a white shirt, black boots, white socks—and carrying a black haversack.

According to Kaieteur News, the Guyana Police Force has launched searches in each case and questioned several persons, though investigators had not established the whereabouts of any of the three as of press time. Authorities have indicated no evidence suggesting the disappearances are connected. The police are urging anyone with information to contact the nearest police station or call 911, as families and communities await word on the missing persons.

West Bank Demerara is a region in Guyana located on the western bank of the Demerara River. The area comprises several communities including Onderneeming, Long Pond, and Patentia.

This story reflects ongoing public safety concerns in Guyana and the broader Caribbean region, where missing persons cases—particularly involving minors—remain a persistent challenge for law enforcement and communities.
