Manchester Police Investigate Death of Auto Repair Operator Found in Porus

Body of missing Mandeville businessman discovered with signs of trauma; cause of death pending autopsy results.

Authorities in Manchester are working to piece together the circumstances surrounding the death of Steven Clayton, a 52-year-old businessman who operated an auto body repair shop in Mandeville. According to the Jamaica Observer, Clayton’s body was discovered early Saturday morning on the Whitney Turn main road near Porus by passersby, approximately one week after he was reported missing.

Claytonwas a resident of Confidence Avenue in Mandeville and was known in the community for his auto body repair business. He had been reported missing on Friday, September 11, prompting concern among his relatives and associates.

When discovered, Clayton’s remains showed signs of blunt force trauma, and vehicle parts were found at the scene, raising questions about the circumstances of his death. Police have secured the scene and begun their investigation, though detectives have not yet released details about what may have transpired.

The Jamaica Observer reports that investigators are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination to establish the official cause of death. Until those findings are available, the exact nature of the incident remains unclear, and police continue their inquiries into the matter.

Manchester Parish, which includes the communities of Porus and Mandeville, is located in the central highlands of Jamaica. The parish has experienced various criminal incidents in recent years, and investigations into suspicious deaths typically require post-mortem examination and forensic analysis before authorities can determine cause and circumstances.

This case reflects ongoing concerns about violent crime and unexplained deaths affecting working-class Jamaicans and small business operators across the island, issues that resonate throughout Caribbean communities where economic vulnerability and safety intersect.
